One

One is an amazing book written and illustrated by Kathryn Otoshi. The theme of book is about learning about how to stand up to bully’s. How to find your inner confidence and turn that bully away. The book starts off with Blue. Blue is a quiet, shy colour. But Red, Red is a hotheaded bully. He starts bullying Blue by saying “Red is hot and Blue is not.” Then Blue gets sad. The other colours comfort him but they don’t say anything to Red. So every time Red bullied Blue he got bigger and bigger. Eventually he got so big that he started bullying all the colours. But the one day, One came along. All the other colours are now small and flat. So he said his usuall thing to Blue, “Red is hot, Blue is not” When he tried to do it to One, he stood tall. He didn’t let Red get to him. So Red, got smaller and smaller and smaller. Then the other colours started to become numbers too. Lastly Blue became 6 and Red got sad, he kept getting smaller and smaller as he walked away. But then Blue called out to Red and said that he could be 7. Red became 7 and they all lived happily ever after.

Ivan: The Remarkable True Story of the Shopping Mall Gorlilla

The story about Ivan the gorilla is a story written by Kathrine Applegate and illustrated by G. Brian Karas. The story is about a gorilla who is taken from the wild by poachers, sold to a shopping mall where he is then put in a cage in the mall. 27 years later he is released after protests by people all over America. He is taken in by the Atlantic Zoo which has lots of gorillas. I think the theme of this book is kindness towards animals. I think this because Ivan is not treated with kindness until he is placed at the Atlantic Zoo where there is a lot of gorillas. I think that the message of he book is to make sure there is animal kindness around the world. If you see that a company or someone is not treating an animal with kindness, make it known. Start protests, make signs and do the best you can to make sure that animal gets the kindness that it deserves. I personally think that this was a great book. It shows that all animals deserve to be treated with kindness and I think that’s really important.
